Gorge from a boat?
With the ice fishing going south thought I might take my boat up to the Gorge. I have never fish there this time of year. Anybody have advise on how and where and what to fish for this time of year?

I have never fished the Gorge this early until I decided to give it a try this weekend. Got up there yesterday early afternoon to a pretty good breeze blowing down the lake. Went to Anvil first then drove down to Sheep Creek. Keep in mind that I fish from a kayak. The wind was still too strong to launch so I decided to fish from shore. 1st cast bam 1 rainbow. It seemed like there was a fish every other cast until it started getting dark.

I tried Anvil agin this morning and fished until about 10:30 when the wind picked up enough for me to feel uncomfortable then headed back to Sheep Creek.the wind was much more manageable in the kayak and was able to have a good afternoon catching fat feisty rainbows.

Caught the rainbows on little Cleo’s casting near shore when the wind cooperated and trolling when there was a little chop.

I just got back. We went up Friday night and then launched from Lucerne first thing Saturday morning. Fished until about 5:00 PM Saturday. Our best success was just west of Horseshoe Canyon. Caught about a dozen pups and one 30 inch Laker. The fish seemed much more scattered than usual. We caught fish between 30 feet and 100 feet trolling spoons tipped with a little chub meat. The weather was nice most of the day but the wind would pick up from time to time. When the wind would pick up, we could usually move to a different location where it was a little calmer. Overall it was a great day and really nice to be out on the boat in January. I would suggest taking a couple bags of rock salt because when the ramps get wet they can be very slick and dangerous. As long as things are dry you're OK. Just make sure to take your time and check things out and be safe. Good luck!
