The landing net category is a busy one. There are big ones, little ones, fat ones and tall ones, each brand and model claiming to catch everything under sun while maintaining world peace, or, so micro-specialized the only model left on the rack is for adult Asian carp on midsize, Midwestern waterways. (That one comes with a dagger for slitting bellies, too.) Choosing the right net can be a head scratcher. One thing’s for sure, though. If the handle reads ‘Frabill,’ you’re in good hands. And if that particular handle is steely gold and further marked with Power Stow, you’ve solved the riddle.
Touted as the ‘ideal blend of form and function,’ Frabill’s Power Stow combines benchmark landing net performance with treasured stowability. Let’s begin at the beginning: POWER. The handle of the Power Stow is constructed of seriously strong, corrosion free aluminum. Next, the nylon yoke is glass-filled for ultimate durability for years of rigorous use.
Admittedly, the Power Stow has a tender side as well. It’s meshing is knotless to take it easy on Mr. Fish during the sometimes tumultuous scooping and hoisting process – no harm to the fish’s scales or fins. Moreover, the tangle-free meshing is coated with Frabill’s signature treatment, which encourages fish to slide into the net while at the same time not removing their protective skin coating.
Now the STOW… What really separates the Power Stow from the wannabes and pretenders are its ‘Open & Deploy’ and ‘Close & Stow’ capabilities. The hoop actually folds in half while the handle slides through the yoke to produce a condensed package that tucks away with ease for short and long-term storage. When it’s time to wage war, simply push a button, pull the handle back through the yoke, unfold the hoop and snap the handle back into place – a seamless and fluid motion even under the pressure of choking when your buddy’s lunker comes boatside. ‘Netman’ gets a gold star when it’s over.
Celebrated tournament champion and Frabill Pro Staff Scott Glorvigen sings its praises. “The Power Stow is a game changer. First, you have a Frabill-quality landing net with core features like knotless, tangle-free meshing and a sturdy aluminum handle – must haves for serious fisherman. Then, the showstopper: It folds shut and the handle virtually disappears. My boat is chock full of gear – space is always at a premium. With the Power Stow, my landing net doesn’t steal any of that valuable fishing space.”
Catering to a wealth of fish species and applications, the Power Stow is available in multiple configurations. The smaller 3704 (14- by 18-inch hoop) and 3706 (20- by 24-inch hoop) models are picture-perfect for lifting panfish and trout on kayaks and canoes. Up the chart, you have models with extendable handles including the 8501 (14- by 18-inch hoop), 8502 (14- by 18-inch hoop), 8507 (20- by 24-inch hoop), 8510 (24- by 28-inch hoop), 8513 (24- by 28-inch hoop), 8520 (30- by 32-inch hoop), 8523 (30- by 32-inch hoop), 8527 (36- by 38-inch hoop) and 8530 (40- by 44-inch hoop). Telescoping length varies by model, taking into account the individualized needs of anglers.
So in summary, there are at least three things you can count in life: 1.) Frabill means quality you can trust. 2.) There’s a ‘POWER’ in Power Stow. 3.) There’s a ‘STOW’ in Power Stow.
