Before the ice fishing season started this year I had a few spots I really wanted to try out this year. Most of my friends are spread out so I usually have someone to fish with wherever I choose to travel.
Fontenelle, WY- from reading WY Fish and Game reports I knew Fontenelle holds burbot and big trout. The ice there is often way better than the Gorge too. I fished Fontenelle with a few friends from Kemmerer on the 21st when the rest of Utah was at the Gorge. We got 5 burbot and a 20 in Brown. I plan on getting back there again to explore a more productive spot.
Ririe, Idaho Falls- Yesterday I met a friend from IF to find some a Kokes at Ririe. He had heard from a guy who fished there often "just go where all the people are and you will find the Kokanee." That sounded dumb, but the guy was right. We had huge schools going by every 15 minutes or so. The problem was the schools would blow through in seconds so we would only get one bite a time. We landed some 12 inch healthy Kokes though. My 4 year old daughter toughed out the day in the ice tent and caught a fish, good trip
Yuba- My last trip of the year (Cascade is a no go for me this year) is a Pike/Walleye chase at Yuba. I have not been able to get down there yet. If anyone on here is even sort of experienced on Yuba please let me know.
