Back from the annual Powel guys trip. There were 14 of us on one house boat with 4 fishing boats. Ate like kings, drank like fish, slept like logs, fished some too. Here are the fish totals. Not the best year by any means but not the worst.
391 Stripers - about 20 to 25% were skinny ones.
9 Mondo Crappie - 2 of which are getting mounted
1 Walleye
25+ Channel Catfish
Until next year,
Cheers

Soooooo,, how big of crappie are you talking about? I've seen some absolute bruzers come out of Powell over the last decade!! I've only been lucky enough to make it down to Powell twice, but both times yielded a lot of strippers and some cats. Both times I was shore bound and last time we camped near some cliffs and I could see some crappie come up to the surface strait below me bud they wouldn't hit any of the 20 or so offerings I showed them lol. I have a Freind that is a taxidermist and I would love to add a big ole crappie to my wall collection!! Can you post a pic or two of the big crappie ya caught? I would also like to see a pic after your taxidermist is done with his fun also if you don't mind. Thanks, Jon.

I have changed my name to Tail Chaser from Sotally Tober. Here are the pics of the 2 of the 3 big crappie we caught. I measured the top of this cooler and it is 13". so your guess is as good as mine. we never put a tape on them. Late getting them to you. sorry.

never weighed any of the striper but I would bet that not a single one of them would have broke 3 pounds. I attached a couple of the crappie. on the other reply.

You're winter trips to Powell are always one of the biggest "envy worthy" fish experiences on the board.
Thanks again for some winter vicarious joy from someone who detests the hard water experience.

Jealousy, Jealousy, Jealousy !!!! There used to be a group of guys that would go down between Christmas and New Years. Stable weather, light breezes, moderate temps, and FANTASTIC fishing. We targeted mainly LMB ( this was before the SMB were introduced), but Crappie, Walleye, and Stripers were also plentiful. Unfortunatly there are only two of us left that participated, several have passed on and the rest have moved away. We now go in April and October.
Man, that's a great trip...definitely jealous!
