Heading to the gulf coast in the near future with fly rod in tow for diy fishing. Been trying to find an urban carp Stillwater location to sharpen target casting but haven't found anywhere good yet. Anyone know of an area they wouldn't mind sharing? Looking anywhere between the airport and about 90th south.

[#0000FF]Not the best time of year for flinging feathers at carp. The Jordan River is about the only open water with available carp. But they slow way down and just school up on the bottoms of deeper holes. Much better to get them in the summer when they are slurping clumps of midges off the surface early morning...and/or chasing larger prey during the day.
Where are you going on the Gulf? I have spent time in several spots from Corpus Christi to Panama City. Had about a 6 month stay in New Orleans and got in some good redfish and speckled sea trout action on the waters around that wacky place.
And will you be fishing the open gulf or some of the backwaters?

I'll be fishing near Galveston. Not sure exactly where yet. My goal is to get into redfish.

They have slowed down in the river but there are days they forget this. I fish mostly down town fair grounds area.
Hitting smaller ones at this time and snowing kinda turns them on (the bite that is)

[#0000FF]There are bays and marshes that are better fishing during the colder months than outside in the open gulf. Will you be going with someone who can show you where and how to fish? If not, spend some time online for Galveston area websites...for angling and tackle shops. They will have the latest intel on where the fish are and what they are hitting.
I have done well fishing backwater channels and marshes in the winter with a flyrod. The fish are often in very skinny water and you can either see the fish or at least see the disturbed water they push up as they move around.
Once the waters warm up the bigger reds move out into the open gulf. You can catch some big fish right off the beach then.
