Fished it yesterday and it was slushy to very slushy. I recommend good boots.

Fished between Cemetary and a Browning last night. It was about 5 inches of slush for the first 50 yards from the shore then not too bad. There were still pretty frozen snow machine tracks everywhere to walk on. My son had shorter length muck boots on but he didn't ever get his feet wet.
It was slow fishing from 6 to 8:30 then it got crazy. We had doubles for a good hour. We could drop down and count down seconds until a bite. Fish fry scheduled.

Thanks for the reply's. Did not go today my little boy said he did not want to go, that was the first time he had ever said he was not interested in going. We have been a lot lately, i don't want to get him burned out on fishing. I hope we get some cold weather again so the ice will stay for a little longer.

The fishing seemed poor last night for all but a few. I moved and moved and finally got a few, but it took hours. Everyone I talked to in 6 different tents and groups were having the same luck. Most were not even marking fish. A bunch of people had brought kids and spouse due to the warmer weather, and between conditions and bad catching, most were gone shortly after dark.
Slush varied from packed areas where it was hard, to almost knee deep, and very wet from the warm and sun. Like, 10" of loose snow saturated with ice water and a 4" top crust of dense, wet old powder, and a 1" glaze of hard granular icy snow to top that. Some spots are all deep slush, and some have a layer of semi-frozen pack that scares the heck out of you when it drops you 6" suddenly to the top of the solid ice. Boot prints will up with water clear to the top in a minute.
The walking is awful, but I eventually found fish, and so did some others who stayed late. It was a mess, though.

Tough walking conditions. Thanks I will stay away until colder weather firms it back up. If it does not get cold again it might be a total loss up there!!
