Made a quick trip to the Gorge yesterday. 12 hour round trip and made it home for the kickoff. Fire up the smoker. The fishing is hot up there now. The only thing I like more than catching and eating Kokanee Salmon is catching and eating things that eat Kokanee.
Watched the results of the Burbot Classic. They took a lot of Burbot out of the water. Love it.

Nice pups, the weather was beautiful up there (warmest winter weather I had experienced at the Gorge), and I enjoyed participating in the classic. I had been burned by lazy teammates in the past, so I signed up as an individual. First night I only had 15 fish for 13 lbs, so me and some friends, that also signed up as individuals and had fared the same, gambled and tried two new, untested spots for us and that second night I caught 32 fish for 35.5 lbs. 48.5 lbs was good enough for second place, and the guy that beat me was one of my friends that was fishing the other new spot that night about a half mile away. My best hole, after talking to a daytime laker fisher and taking his advice seriously, was deeper than I had fished previously at 70 ft. Better bite seemed to be deeper.
Almost 2,000 lbs of burbot being taken out is amazing, certainly helps some of the game fish with that many feeer mouths to feed. The totals for the top team were incredible, 315 lbs, doubling up the second place team, which is pretty incredible and I take my hat off to those guys.

Looks like you had a pretty good day for the pups. It's not hot fishing everywhere up there though. I was in the vicinity of Holmes Crossing and had about 10 minutes of hot fishing, catching 2 and losing a third, then nothing the rest of the time. Glad for you that you found a hot spot. Tomorrow it might not. That's the way its been for my friends - one day they smoke em and the next they can't seem to find (m)any.

Those pup's can be a blast for some fast fishing!! :-). I think I need to get my butt up their, but im a little concerned about the wind combined with these warmer temps, I've watched that lake blow wide open really fast all around me to many times before lol. So my main question is was their much wind up their yesterday? I've already booked my room and I'll bring my lifejacket just in case hee hee.

Yesterday had very light winds. Buckboard area should be good with no open water for miles.

Roads on the east side were very muddy with the thaw, but ice was solid. Farthest south I drilled was by middle marsh creek and there were 8 inches there. Great time to go hit some pups.

Thanks for the info! I've had a craving for some smoked fish big time lately. I'll try for some pup's for my taste buds for a bit but I really need a good bend in my pole for the lack of fishing I've had the last couple years!!! And on a side note, thats a beautiful golden trout you have in your avatar.
