Despite my strong warning to this guy that he should not attempt to go on the ice with his 4 wheeler Saturday afternoon at East Canyon, he still thought he knew better.
He broke through and submerged his machine on its side – this shot is after my friend helped him pull it back up.

If there is open water at the bottom of the boat ramp and the edges look soft and you don't see other machines on the ice, don't risk it.

This guy was lucky he didn't break his leg the way he broke through and fell on his side.

This warm weather is wreaking havoc on the ice.

Be prepared to Plank Up and for the Ice Season to end soon if this keeps up.

Talk to Bassrods about breaking through the ice. He went through a hole at Yuba some years ago, that someone had cut with a chain saw and did not mark. His unit went through into 40 ft of water. Fortunately his sled with all his gear stayed on solid ice. He was able to get it pulled out, but not cool !! This guy was very lucky !!
I went to EC on Sunday. When we pulled in the boat ramp area there were no cars in the parking lot and someone camped on the ice in a Walls tent. Their wheeler was parked at the bottom of the boat ramp off to the right. I had a snow machine so with enough speed I shot across the solid but weak edge. My friends gingerly made it across on foot. There was a huge hole in the ice to the right of ramp. I watched as the parking lot filled several wheelers shoot across to the ice. Left EC at about 11. I didn't want to see anyone get hurt or lose equipment trying to get back on shore. I hope everyone made it home safe.

Not sure if I would have helped him get his 4 wheeler back up after warning him. I would have probably just made sure he was OK and wished him good luck in getting it out.
