Went up to Porcupine to give it a whirl this mourning. The road is plowed to the base of the dam only. A set of truck ruts go to the top of the dam then end. I got good and stuck there trying to turn around at the dam. There is no where to park or turn around on the dam. The best plan for fishing the pig right now is to park below the dam and walk up the road or snow machine. The ice looked good and shore lines looked doable. I didn't fish as it took to long to get unstuck and there was nowhere to park on the dam.

Sorry your trip didn't turn out, but it's a different year this year... good to hear the ice is holding... Porcupine is usually my last hope for ice fishing in this area.... Hope to get a trip up there before it's too late... Later J

Im planning on heading up there this weekend. Just gotta try to find a board to help with getting across the edge if needed.

With all the runoff, I'll bet the plank will be required. Crazy melt going on right now and the rain isn't helping so it will be good to be prepared. Wonder if the hill will be more passible this weekend. Later J

I should have got you a picture of the Bear River, they tell a lot more than words, but the river is full open and running high tonight as I just went by. It's going to be harder to find ice than it is open water before long. Thanks for the pig picture later J

Buddy said they're was eight feet of water before he hit ice with the pipe he took with him

Wow and with all the new rain and snow melt that's only going to grow wider by the hour. Was that by the dam where the bank is steep? If so then there's not much hope of getting on the ice. Thanks J

Ya that was at the base of the dam

Thanks, so what about taking a boat to get to the ice to fish??? maybe a toon transport, is that too desperate?? Is my addiction showing??? Later J

Ben used a canoe one spring to get onto the ice at Newton. Lead to some nice Musky hookups!
That guy's got a nack!
But I think part of the challenge was getting from the canoe ONTO the ice.
Wonder how much the road mess has melted, but sounds like a long hop to a good edge.
Larry had some pictures of wide edge gaps up there the other day so the canoe may be the way to go and you're right the getting on the ice safe would be difficult. Later J
