Amazing what can happen in a week. Tired of the cold I went south into NV/AZ to interview some old veterans for a new project I'm involved in. When I left last Thursday It was cold and icy at Utah Lake.

This morning we grabbed our rods and headed down to Lincoln beach to enjoy the day. It was incredible! Although we were fishing primarily for northern pike that didn't bite...The white bass were more than cooperative. After a couple of dozen we called it a day and went home.
There are many square miles of open water on the South end of the lake and unless it gets bitter cold for a prolonged period of time I don't think it will refreeze.

The launch ramp needs to come up another 6 inches before I will feel comfortable enough to put my boat on the water, but as full as the rivers are...It won't be long.

A short video from today is attached.

Very nice! Thanks for the enjoyable video....I'm still chasing the ice, but your report makes me realize that it won't be long before the short rods get put away....

What does it look like for public access this year? Are there signs, parking areas?

It's hard to tell this early about access outside of the park itself (Where we were fishing) If the water continues to rise the springs area will be underwater and there will be no driving in.
I spoke to Utah County Commissioner Ivie last week about Lincoln Beach. I believe the county will do some positive things at Lincoln Beach this spring prior to the valley run. With the Provo Boat Harbor closed for the year Lincoln Beach is going to have a significant increase in boaters and we are hoping the county does what it can to accommodate them. They have increased the parking area, but additional things would help; specifically, clear the hazards between the jetties, Open the jetties for handicapped access, portapotties on the north end of the park closer to the ramp, fish cleaning station back in and several others. Commissioner Ivie lives nearby and uses the park himself and recognizes that improvements need to take place in the immediate future.
I hope it is going to be a great water year.

Provo Boat Harbor closed for this coming year? Had not heard that. What's up?

The harbor and the park will be closed while they dredge the harbor. End of April until
late Aug or Sept (I think). Lincoln beach will take a lot of pressure.

Last summer there was not even two feet in the Provo harbor. Yet they never posted any warning for boaters. The state parks people should have stopped the launching of any boats. Or at LEAST posted notice.

I saw Launch at own Risk signs at Utah Lake and Willard on every ramp for most of last Year. I like that better than arbitrary closure. Let me be the judge in my tin boat.

So that means I have to get the boat ready. they need to run all that silt through a strainer to get the cool stuff out, phones, rings, ect.
when I was down there last fall I picked up an anchor, my rod holder that went missing last spring, transom saver, but the motor was in bad shape so I didn't get it.
