Aaaah the crappy troller!...lol. I always forget to put it up when I'm done trolling and then bend the heck out of it. It works fine though and should slow you down enough. I've had a buddy weld on some extra support after being bent so many times. I don't really use it anymore after buying a trolling motor. It now gets used as a step to get back in the boat after swimming.

I use a "jointed" EasyTroller on my 85HP all the time. No issues with it bending.
With the big engine it is tougher to manage lower end speeds like you can with a smaller trolling motor.
But for anything 1.5MPH and higher it's great.

I put a small one (made for 25hp motors) on my 15 HP Merc on my 14 ft. Lund. Works great. I can run at .5 without having to cut the throttle back so far that the motor lugs and dies. They come with 2 positions, full up or full down. I cut a notch in between those 2 positions and can run it at about a 45 degree down. Lets me troll a steady 1.0 to 2.5, no problem.

I got one on my 40hp, 16ft aluminum boat. Works great, I can troll all day at 1.4-1.6 mph and keep enough rpms up to keep the ol' 2 smoke motor from loading up.
