So I parked at the south marina yesterday and met my buddy with his boat. After fishing I had this notice of non compliance on the truck. This seems ridiculous given the fact I didn't have a boat trailer connected to the truck...thoughts?

That is weird, did you by chance take a picture of your truck parked where they cited you to show you didn't even have your boat with you?

No and I was a notice not a citation which is good. I guess we should start allocating glasses for park Rangers so they don't waste more tax dollars writing redundant notices....maybe he thought I was gonna take my silverado fishing...so I called both the state Park and DWR neither of whom could answer my questions about written requirements...further waste of my time.

If you parked in the upper lot (closest to the ramp) the rangers assume you launched a boat because that lot is supposed to be for boat launch vehicles only.

To be fair to them, you could well have launched a tube, toon, or kayak, none of which require a trailer.

You probably should display your annual Decontamination Certification Form on the dash anytime you're on the water, too.

I actually just got a call back from the Ranger who wrote the notice. I have to share he was very courteous and mentioned he simply forgot to look to see if I had a trailer connected to the truck. He said it's such a habit that he didn't check for a trailer. He apologized...I appreciate the time he took to call me back.

Kind of hard to not notice a missing trailer, seeing how a boat was part of what he was writing the citation for, but at least he called you back.

[#0000FF]All's well that ends. Glad you got some common sense into play...after the fact.

Reminds me of the (boating) trip I made with a fellow BFTer at Starvation a couple of years ago. When we got back to the truck there was a CITATION under the windshield wiper...for no park pass. And it was directly on top of the park pass clearly displayed on the dashboard...only an inch or two below the citation. Things which are in plain view...or patently evident...are often overlooked by the shortsighted.

Hey Pat the Parks guy was trying to get some more money out of you for taking all their fish home.[:p]

Besides, they put that little hangy thing on your pass to hang it on your mirror. He obviously never bothered to look on your dash.[:/]

[#0000FF]Wasn't my vehicle. It was the truck owned by the boater guy I was riding with. And his rear view mirror had been knocked off by a grandkid a couple of days before.

On the flip side, at Willard one time I was clear out on the lake when I noticed the ranger truck stop to check my vehicle in the parking lot. Only then did I remember that I had forgot to remember to put my pass on the mirror. The good news was that the ranger was a BFTer too, and saw my sticker...and knew who I was and that I had a valid pass. So he just put a friendly reminder under my wiper.

The rangers ain't all bad. Just some of them not quite so observant as others. Welcome to the human race. Most are pretty good folks.

Still rankles though that the punk rocker gal in the booth at Willard would not sell me a new annual pass before the end of the month...when I still had a week left on my old pass. Couldn't do the math. All of the metal piercings were probably bringing in outer space signals that interfered with common sense.

I don't want to think about how many times I've gotten out on the lake and forgot to leave my AIS certificate on the dash.

I wish they could come up with small sticker or something for us old forgetful guys otherwise I might have to drive around all the time with it on my dash.[Wink]

This is a simple solution. After taking the online test and getting my certificate, I save a master copy with my signature to a file on my computer. Then I reduce a printed copy, install it in a plastic sheet and tape it to the inside windshield driver side and it stays there whether I tow to a lake or not. I go one step further and do same thing on boat side window starboard side. No regulation says you can't reduce it. I never have to worry about digging out my certificate or filling one at the launch site. I have been doing this for 4yrs now and have been told it was a very good idea.
I personally feel since residents have to pay a AIS fee for DMV registration they should not have to take any tests or fill out a certificate form at launch site. A boat registered here now means no one gets away with the fee, only to those visiting must go the other route. We all knew we were going to be charged a fee ahead of time and what it represents. I don't have a problem with an onsite interactive inspection. If you been deemed contaminated having your vessel decontaminated still applies and quarantine also applies.

I had that problem too a couple years ago. I fixed it by putting my annual park pass, and my AIS certificate in connected plastic document protectors. I NEVER forget my park pass, so now they just lay side by side on my dash.
Can't hook the park pass to the rear view mirror cuz the mirror attachment is bigger than the hook on the pass.
