So far this year my crappie fishing has been "average," at best... until yesterday. Chickamauga Lake water temps have climbed to 63 (+ or -) shallow water crappie are firing up.

Everybody knows that I'm a longline troller. That is my forte. Yesterday we caught 37 in four hours, all trolling.

Today we had 23 trolling in 2.5 hours... and the bite slowed. I felt the need to try something different and fish for some shallow water spawning crappie.

I knew when I pulled into a slough and saw David East, I was apparently in the right place.

I told my clients, "Ignore me. Watch how that guy fishes and then do exactly what he's doing." emoTeacher

We were casting Crappie Magnet jigs under floats in 4-8 feet of water and it was game on. We finished out a 3-man limit, along with a nice bonus bass. That's actually the best I've done fishing jigs/floats in a while (although I normally don't do it a lot). Thanks to David for kindly allowing us to share his slough. It was a true pleasure watching a professional "at work."

Best of all I was with one of my favorite regular clients, Clint Bailey, and his brother, Cody. Clint is from Lynchburg, TN. I'll let you check out the photo of my "tip" below and figure out where he works. emoDance
