Full Version: Fish lake or Gorge? Looking for big fish in a small boat.

Looking into doing a trip next month and would like to try and catch my first lake trout. I have a small boat that I troll with and does have downriggers. I don't want to travel too far from where I launch with my boat. Is there a good fishing in the Utah side of the gorge? Seems the best is in the Wyoming side. Fish lake seems like a good option for me since it's not that big of a lake for my small boat and they seem to have some big lakers there. I haven't been to either lakes and would like to get some suggestions. Thanks

There's good mack fishing on every side of the Gorge. Launch at Sheep Creek and fish the canyon. Launch at Anvil Draw and fish all the killer mack water within a mile of the boat ramp (That's what I'd do). Or, launch at Lucerne and fish within sight of the boat ramp at Antelope Flat, Linwood Bay, or Swim Beach. None of these launch sites require more than a mile or two run to get to great water. Now catching the damn things, . . . well, . . . that's another story. You can be all over fish in a short time from any of those ramps though. Same goes for Brinegars and Buckboard for that matter, but I use the other 3 the most. Anvil is easiest.

Watch for the wind. When the white caps start, or you can see them coming at you, have a plan of action. Quick. Fish the mornings.

I would suggest Fish Lake just for the sheer fact it is smaller and it has big fish. You can troll the whole lake multiple times by the time you get a small fraction anywhere on the gorge. If the wind is blowing at the gorge and you are in a small boat it may produce a life threatening situation or at least a new sphincter pucker factor if in a boat 14' or under. The gorge is an amazing body of water but so is Fish Lake. Not to mention just a short distance from Fish Lake is Johnson Reservoir if you choose to go after Tiger Muskie the same day. Which ever you choose you shouldn't be disappointed.

Get on Tarponjim waiting list and pay him to show you how to do it.
that would be the fastest way to lean.
like he said catching them is another thing if you have never fished for them.
pups are not that hard to catch trolling with spoons they are under the kokanee down about 80 ft.
I would try anvil draw buy the WY $10 reciprocal stamp.

on the Utah side would be Sheep Creek
