I finally made it to Deer Creek. The weather was very nice. Cool nights and warm days. No jacket needed after about 8 am. I fished late Tuesday morning and early Wednesday morning.
I was told that the smallmouth were still up at the north end and it was too far for my Minn Kota to travel so I only tried for trout.
The fish were in about 15 feet of water and about 40 feet from shore in 50 to 60 feet of water. I didn't seen many on the finder when I was in water 100 feet deep or more, but I didn't stay in water that deep very long.
I caught a nice rainbow using my fly rod to troll a brown woolly bugger type fly with a gold head. Picture follows.
It had nice orange flesh and made delicious fillets for dinner Tuesday.
I caught one more Wednesday, not as big as the first, but also tasty. I tried trolling the same fly as before, but got nothing so I switched to a Blue Fox lure with a blue body and silver spinner and trolled using my spinning rod.
The wife, Lady_Hawke didn't fish. Instead she kayaked part of the time, then did geocaching along the trail that begins at the dam and runs along the far shoreline.
While fishing, I happened to see the Deer Creek Express train heading her way so I gave her a call on the ham radio to expect it. She stood a few feet from it as it passed by.
It was a fun trip. I will definitely go back there.
Edited to add picture of first fish. It isn't a monster, but it is the largest one I have caught in many years.
