Fishing Forum

I really didn't think that I would be making a post about another boat coming in on me this soon, and didn't want to get picky about any encounters, but with the way this one happened I felt this is one that needed to be known. I made a post yesterday about courtesy, respect, and ethics about hunting and fishing and this encounter from this morning shows just how far out of hand people have gotten with teaching our younger generations those values. This boat came up river and with no boats insight of where my client and his son were fishing decided that he was just going to shut down right beside me and start fishing. I asked after he shut down what he was doing and the man told me that "he ran 20 miles and he had a waypoint here"! "20 miles" and no boats around and you want to cut us off and fish this one small spot? This is when it got interesting because I said "are you kidding me?", and his son looked at me and told me "I was ridiculous". This was a young man, well let's change that, a young "KID" standing on the front of his boat 20 ft., yes 20 ft. from me and telling me that I'm ridiculous? Instead of causing a big stir from what just happened in front of my clients "9 yr. old son", I told them to while I took a pic and just go ahead and do what ever they wanted to because it was obvious they already were. Then less than a cast in front of me the young "kid" caught a 5-6 lb. Bass, so I guess it was worth it to them to cut off a boat that had a 9 yr. old young "MAN" inside learning the "right" ethics and courtesy of fishing. This just goes to show that there are a lot of people out there that like to consider themselves as "sportsmen", but with what happened this morning it's obvious that some of them have no clue to the meaning of being a "true sportsman". It's one thing to fish in front of another boat or even up close behind another boat, but to pull up to within "20 ft." and start fishing? Like I said at the end of my post last night, " we have a long ways to go". Mike Carter
