A friend and I drove up Huntington Canyon to fish Huntington Reservoir (Mammoth). When we got there the wind was howling and there were white caps. We decided to fish Cleveland instead since it is a little more protected from the wind. We fished from 9:30 until 12:30 and caught a grand total of one fish, a 13" cutthroat, and had a couple of other hits. The water temperature was 51 degrees and the visibility in the water of about 8'. The reservoir is full and spilling as are all of the Manti Mountain reservoirs.

We drove back to Mammoth and it was still windy but we thought what the heck we were already cold and wet so we went for it. We fished from 1:00 until 2:30 and caught a total of five fish, all tigers from 12" to 14". The water temperature was 47 degrees and the visibility in the water of only about 3' with quite a bit of debris in the water.

We were in our tubes using both fast sink and medium sinking lines and various size 6 crystal buggers in green and a size 8 bead head Canada Blood leech.

It was a poor fishing day but we got more than our share of exercise.[Wink]

That looks pretty cold still. You are braver than I am. I've been in shorts since April and that's the way I like it.

Thanks for the report. I would have given up much sooner, but I respect the commitment!

[#0000FF]Terminal masochism.

Glad to hear the water is open and glad you at least caught a few for your efforts.

My wife always asks me on days like that if anyone else was fishing and if I tell her no she says that should tell you something.[:/]

There is something about driving 50 miles to get there that I just have to do what I came for. We just picked a bad day.

It sure is nice to see all the local reservoirs full again, even Scofield is spilling.[Smile]

"even Scofield is spilling."[Smile]

[#0000FF]It would be nice if there were some trout left in Scofield. Shoulda treated it last year when it was empty.[/#0000FF]

They had three years where it was less than 20% full in the fall.

[#0000FF]Golly gee. Wouldn't ya think it would be the sensible thing to do...to take advantage of the lower water volume to do a treatment? But since when does common sense become a factor in important decisions?

I haven't seen them that full in 6 years, we will be up there in 3 weeks with our small boat for a few days.

Hard to use common sense and gubberment in the same sentence.

[#0000FF]Yeah, that's one of those "oxy-mormons"...or whatever. I'm guessing you have heard all the same ones I have.
