Does your boat have switches on the dash that say aerate or something along those lines.
On mine you turn the master power switch on then the aerate switch on.
Plug in the livewell in.
Where the water sprays out top right hand corner in livewell. This can be screwed in or out to adjust water flow from full on to off. Make sure this is screwed to on position. Water should be pumping in.
Let us know what your setup looks like.

There is an areation switch but that's it

My previous center console and the boat I have now have a valve in the bilge that can be shut off, the center console was under the seat, the one I have now is in the very back of the boat under a cover, they should be turned off when leaving the boat moored in case a hose leaks, the center console had a three way ball valve to switch between wash down and livewell, new boat have seperate pumps, but use the same intake valve,

Have you tried turning on that aeration switch? If you have, can you hear a motor running? You are trying this when the boat is in the water, correct?

Yes aeration switch works I know this because on our last outing when I opened the live well there was actually a few inches of water in it so I flipped the switch and it worked however I don't have a clue as to how the water got in there and being we were in the middle of the lake I got nervous about fooling with it,I had visions of sinking via live well[blush]

Depending on the location of your livewell, having water in it, after you get on the water is normal, nothing to be alarmed about but it does not mean the aeration switch works or are you saying you saw water being pumped into the livewell[:/]? You will need to just try it in your driveway and listen for the sound of a motor running, just don't leave the switch on or it will burn up the motor and run your battery dead. Did you buy this boat new or used? If you bought it new the marina or the boat dealer should be able to show you how everything works but even if you bought it from a private owner, there is nothing wrong with asking them about running all the controls on the boat. Next time you are on the water or even if you just putting the boat in the water and still on the trailer, try flipping on all the switches, one at a time and see if water starts pumping into your livewell. One of them likely pumps water into the livewell, unless the pump has gone bad.

It worked because it pumped the water it just didn't add new water I bought it used it is a 2010 model I asked the guy I bought it from but he didn't know they never used them or the boat much

As I said before, just because you have water in your live well, it does not mean it was pumped in, you have to actually see the water being pumped in to know, because some live wells sit lower than the outside water level, so it comes into the live well every time the boat is put in the water. Not every live well is like this, it just depends on the boat. Another option is to fine the boat dealer in your local area that sells your type of boat, then either call him or go down there and talk to them. Most boat dealers are willing to help because they know that you are likely to go back there, when you need maintenance done on your boat. What I and others have told you on this thread can help you solve your problem but without having knowledge of your boat it might be hard to totally understand. You might be easier just to have the dealer show you, if there is one in your area, good luck and don't forget what boat stands for, B-O-A-T=Break-Out-Another-Thousand [
