there was a post about one month ago about Scofield Reservoir chubs
catching them for bait

I have not been to Scofield in over 30 years

so are the chubs still in the river below the dam that you can catch them with a cast net?
I bot a old salt cast net after reading the post, but could not stop fishing for kokanee to go after the chubs

have not taken the net out of the box.

hoping to go to Scofield Tue.

I went there about a month ago specifically for bait chubs. Several BFTers suggested, jokingly I assumed, taking a truck to haul my catch back. They were not far off. I filled two large coolers with chubs with just a few casts with my net. If you want to take kids with you they can catch them on bare hooks for fun. Easy access to the river just below the dam. Most are 6-8 inches long... cut into thirds they make good catfish bait.

As said, that was a month or so ago. Have not heard any recent reports but pretty sure there are still plenty of chubs in the river.

I agree totally with what BLK said. I went there below the dam 3 weeks ago and got all the chubs I wanted. I used a 1/4" mesh cast net that worked really well for the smaller minnow sized ones (had to toss back a lot of trout minnows also) but caught the larger chubs on every cast with the rod and small jig and piece of worm. Don't wear your best shoes, it's kind of wet down close to the water. I brought home a big bucket of them and I'll have cutthroat and catfish bait for a long time.

I've got some chub fillets all diced up if you want some.

I was at Scofield today! I fished right below the dam. There were thousands of chubs lined up in the river. I caught one on nearly every cast. I caught 58 nice sized chubs in 1.5 hours. I used a tube jig. Any color will work but the best color for me today was a black body with green or yellow legs.
