Made it out to the south marina a little after noon yesterday. Unloaded the tube on the north ramp and noticed R2U2 was loading the banana boat on the south ramp. Walked over to say hi and see how he did. Looked like Richard had a good morning. Full stringer of catfish with several very good ones. Picked up a couple of cookie cutters in the channel as I worked out to the lake. Made the right turn and worked the dike north towards the feedlot without much luck. Richard had found fish out in a little deeper water so I swung out and moved into the lake. Caught another one in 17 FOW, but wasn't seeing much on the fish finder. Since I'd found some fish in the channel, I headed towards the buoys. Just before I reached the buoys, the fish finder lit up and I found myself with two fish on. Everyone should have that problem. Jammed the spinning rod with the flig down into the rod holder and took care of business on my flyrod. About the time the fish hit the sushi board, the other line went limp. For the next couple hours, fishing was good. It took a while to find the sweet spot but the search paid off. For the first time, I think I caught more fish on my spinning rod with Tube Dudes flig attached than on my flyrod. Added a chartruese gulp minnow and tipped it with a little worm. Seemed like a winning combination. Kept four or five for dinner and made it back to the marina by 4 pm.

You beat me to the post this morning.

I didn't tell you of my double. I have caught doubles before but not quite like this one.
Booth rods went down at the same time, oh crap now what? I cranked both the best I could for a short time then fixed one rod in the holder and stayed with the other. The one that I put in the net was the largest of the day. When I reached to put it on the stringer I see the line of the other rod completely tangled on the stringer and other fish. Now what to do? After trying to free it up I decided one on the stringer was better than two in the water( something like that). After fastening the one on the stringer I went back to attempting to free the tangled line. When I saw that wasn't going to happen I found the bottom part of the line , the one with the fish and began doing the hand over hand retrieve careful to take it slow and keep the lines from raping around my hands or fingers. Patients paid off as I was able to get it to the yak and slip the net under it. Those two fish were the two largest of the day.

With one line cut free from the rod I went ahead and secured it then found out the other hook caught up with the transducer so I cut that one loose. I had seven fish at that time and still had the small rod with a jig tied on. Hooked my last bait ( the one I hadn't put back on ice) and chucked it out. short time number eight.

I cranked up the electric and headed for the cleaning station.

All of the fish I caught today were caught with perch pieces, some kept from last winter.

Best depth was 17 -18' west of the feed lot. I found them on the way to the island. Never did get out there.

It was a good day and I had a good laugh with myself for silly mistakes.

Good to see you out there Larry and thanks for coming over to say Hi. Sounds like you had a good day also.

Doubles are an issue. Usually ends up like yours. I think I've managed to land both fish twice. I did have a pretty good afternoon once I found some fish.

This thread is making me regret not going on Tuesday, but getting to the shooting range was important too.

Speaking of Willard doubles....Took the family out this morning looking for these "boils" i hear tell of. None were found but my wife and I simultaneously hooked up on 19" wipers! Man that's a good time! [inline 20170907_104936.jpg]

[#0000FF]Sounds like fun.

Just got back from fishing with WH2...in a boat. (bolt of lightning...loud clap of thunder). He got one wiper early then if it wasn't for the kitties it would have been a dull day. But we both caught several...including a triple...he got one nice one and then both of my rods went off. Fun circus. Landed all.

Oh yeah. Fligged 'em good.

That explains the sonic boom a few miles north this morning.
