I can see why the dnr is planting predator fish to control the chubs. They are outta control there. We caught 244 in 2 hrs. between 2 of us. Got plenty of bait for ice fishing season.[Wink]

The river below Scofield was a fantastic fishery. Now it is completely DEAD, DEAD and more DEAD due to gross mis-management of Scofield. The river is still listed as a blue ribbon fishery. Nothing but chubs in the river - Why? --- Gross mis-management. We only have a few rivers in Utah that are Blue Ribbon - With a little stream restoration this fishery could be saved. But for now it is DEAD.

For those of you collecting chubs from and around Schofield waters; are you seeing or catching ( netting, trapping) any of the minnow size? If so, where would you suggest I start my search?

using a net

When I went I used a 1/4" cast net, and set out 2 minnow traps, and also used a rod and reel. I was very surprised at the end, I pulled in the traps and caught absolutely nothing, using dry dog food for bait. The net consistently caught minnows from 1 1/2" to 4 or 5" and not a lot of adults, but I had to cast it a lot of times to get a bunch of them. I was mainly interested in getting the 4-5" ones, like they used to sell. It's kind of a dirty stinky business! You can certainly get a lot of those small ones if you cast your net a lot of times. Of course you just drive down below the dam and do it anywhere you can park and get to the water easily, no problem. You'll see thousands of them there in the river.

I threw the cast net below the dam and caught lots of them from 6' to 8 ". Did not catch any smaller ones but my net is 3/8.
I have been looking to order a 1/4" net but so far have been to cheap. I prefer the smaller minnows myself.
