[#0000FF]Got a reply back to my question on the harbor dredging to Sam Braegger...outreach coordinator for the Utah Lake Commission.

As to the Utah Lake State Park dredging, its not officially happening yet. They want to get it done during the winter. The State Park has removed most of the boat docks, and they have closed Loop A of their campground so that it can be used as the spot to site all the dredged material and let it dry. However, the RFP hasn't gone out yet, so there isn't a contractor as of yet. That should be going out in the next couple of weeks, though.

So, we are keeping our fingers crossed, but no solid info on the dredge yet. The Division of State Parks has put a cap on the project, I believe somewhere around 1.5 million dollars. When the RFP goes out, they will basically be asking "How much can you get done with this much money?" NOT "We want the whole inner and outer marina and channel dredged, how much will that cost?" The estimates we have been hearing say that hopefully the $1.5 million will cover dredging the inner marina and the channel by 2-3 feet and removing any underwater obstructions, such as anchors and chunks of cement.

Thanks Pat, it will be interesting to see what comes out of there, maybe they would let a guy run a metal detector over the mud pile.

[#0000FF]Don't count on it. In our litigious society most agencies put up a lot of barriers and signage to discourage folks from putting themselves in harm's way. Unbelievable how many stupid people get hurt and then sue the people who let them do it to themselves.

I imagine you might find some unusual "artifacts" with a metal detector. But I wouldn't wanna be using a gold pan on that stuff. At least not without a hazmat suit.
