I just got back home after spending a great day with TubeDude at Lincoln. I'm sure he will be posting a report sometime today.

My version: We started out at about 7:30 and fishing was kinda slow. I finally caught a nice big male that probably would have gone 28 inches at about 9:30 -- TD had not caught a fish!! I could see little beads of sweat popping out on his head at the thought of being out-fished or skunked. Not to worry... when we finally located the fish TD hauled in a big 29 1/2 incher, among several others.

Now I have never been one to complain, but... twice now I have taken TD out in my boat and both times he caught the fish of the day and both times they were 29 1/2 inchers. To his credit, he did not constantly remind me he caught the most fish and the biggest.

Fun trip with good company and great weather. I'll let TD do his write up and post as only he can. It was a great day and I plan to take him out again in a couple of years.

The guy is a fish magnet. If you are going to take him out ya kinda got to get used to him catching more or bigger fish. Sounds like some bigger fish going on the fall chomp. Good job.

[#0000FF]It really was a nice day all around...but better once I finally tied on a hook to catch some fish after letting you catch the first one.

Details for those who want them: Air temp 44 at launch and water temp 55...warming to just under 58 by departure at 1:30. Light breezes all day...but from all different points of the compass. Never too bad and usually just right for our drifts.

Caught fish on both white bass and chubs. Even caught one nice white bass on a half chub on one of my fligs (floating jigs).

We each caught about 4 catfish. Slow by summer standards but typical after a 10 degree water temp drop in one week. At least the larger fish seem to be getting more active...as prophesied. BLKs 28 incher and my 29 incher both hit hard and fought well...even in the mid fifties water temps.

Thanks for the boat ride Lynn. Hope the earth doesn't tilt on its axis after I fished from a boat 3 days this last week...two different boats. My poor float tube was whimpering in my garage when I came home today. It is getting lonely.

Lynn, sounds like a good day. Hoping to make a trip down this Sunday if the weather is reasonable. How's the depth out of LB ?

Nice job you two!!! Nice fish too. Wish I would have found a good fish today. I got skunked other than four chub minnows for bait. Glad you had a good one. Later J

Forest-- No trouble launching at Lincoln. Water in the channel is a little over 2 feet deep. Couple of boats bigger than mine launched today.

Weather is looking rainy for this weekend. I think I'll sneak out in the morning and try to get in a couple of hours before the wind and rain???

I'm hoping for a few days of summer weather again to warm the water up a couple of degrees. I think the big ones might be on the feed.[Smile]

Lynn, Thanks for the reply. Sunday morning came dark and cool up here. We decide to just toss a couple poles in the truck and go to breakfast, and if the weather cleared, we would go up to Bear River and drown a tub of worms. The weather did clear up about 9 AM as we were eating. Got up to the river and right off, the wife hooked up a monster Carp. She got it up to the bank then the hook ripped out of his lip. Had another one shortly after that that got into the reeds and the hook ripped out of the little bit of skin it was in. Then we moved around to another spot where we could get some break from the wind. I had one that broke off around a fallen tree stump, then one that I got half way up the concrete irrigation wall and hook ripped out of his lip. Wife finally got one that took the hook deeper down and she was able to get it up on the bank.
So no contest cats, but enough fight to get our blood pressure up a couple notches.

Hey, "... enough fight to get our blood pressure up" is what it is all about. Glad you got out and had some fun with good company. I'm stuck with Tube Dude for company.[Wink] Which reminds me, we have another outing scheduled for next week. We plan to hit 'em hard looking for at least one 30+ incher. Gonna be shameful if the south team cannot produce at least one 30+ inch cat. TD will be using some his special supper-duper handmade cat jigs so I expect him to haul in another bigun.

Always fun to fish with TD so I sure hope the weather cooperates. Hope you are able to get out again too.

Hey good work! I'm glad you guys got together and had some fun. It sounds like it took some patience, but they were good fish!

Nice report and pictures, and really nice fish! I saw another 29.5 posted to the contest recently by the south. Maybe it will be a contest yet! I'm still amazed that we haven't posted a single fish 30 inches or better. Maybe they will all come in the next 12 days!

"I'm still amazed that we haven't posted a single fish 30 inches or better"

[#0000FF]All those fish were singles...no married ones.

I also saw that other 29.5 incher. Probably the same one I released.

Actually, mine would have been over 30" if BLK hadn't been pushing the tail end toward the head. He claims he was pulling it straight to make it longer. But if you look at the attached picture I posted for the contest you can see BLK's hands and notice that the fish is slightly kinked/twisted...to avoid it making the 30 inch mark. Thanks Lynn.

Looks like you got to watch BLK. LOL[Wink]
[#0000FF]Hey, all fisherpersons are of questionable character to begin with. Fisherman and liar are natural go togethers...cinnamonous...or whatever.

Now you modify that with an attraction to catfish and no tellin' what they might do...or say.

See what I have to put up with when I spend 4 or so hours in my boat with TD? It actually gets worse sometimes. A leather hide and poor hearing helps... but still, I'd spend a day with him any time cuz I know he appreciates everything I try to teach him about ketchin' catfish. He's a slow learner but he's becoming a better catter every time we go out.

I'll keep trying.

[#0000FF]All I gotta say is that it's a good thing we can stand each other's company. And it's probably a good thing nobody else was along. They would probably have to go into some kind of therapy after a 4 hour session around us.

I do appreciate your attempts to elevate my knowledge and skills to your level. Someday I may just catch a fish or two.
