Fort Lauderdale Fishing with Top Shot Sportfishing Charter Boat and Capt. Zsak

Craig and Aidan Richesin, brothers from Fort Lauderdale, and Deborah, their mother from Montana, chartered the Top Shot Sportfishing charter boat team to do some deep sea charter boat sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Today the Richesin’s were celebrating Deborah’s 70th birthday – Happy Birthday, Deborah. We had a 2 to 4 ft. chop with light winds blowing at 10 mph and some clouds – a real nice day.

Fifteen minutes after leaving the dock, lines were in 120 ft. of water at the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, 1.8 miles from shore. We started out trolling with two #8 plainers down and four surface baits. The anglers started catching Kingfish as soon as we started fishing, with all the action on the two deep plainer lines - very steady and a lot of fun. The fish were averaging 10 pounds, and we caught a total of nine Kingfish and two Bonitos.

Deborah requested we try for a Tile fish, so we went out to 415 ft. of water and put out three baits, one bait on the bottom for the Tile fish and two Shark baits - one on the surface and one 200 ft. deep. We never did get a Tile fish, but within an hour a Shark came swimming around the surface bait, made a few turns searching for the bait and found it. The Shark ate the bait and the fight was on. The Shark dumped a few hundred yards of line off the 80 International Reel, screaming out drag. We battled the Shark for over an hour with some gains and losses before it finally came close enough to grab the leader line - it was a 400 lb. Tiger Shark. Pictures were taken and the Shark was released to fight again.

With a total catch of nine Kingfish, two Bonitos and one Tiger Shark, it was time to head back to the dock. The anglers retired into the a/c salon and enjoyed the relaxing trip back to the dock at Bahia Bar Yachting Center, 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
