Welcome to the board Utcatman! I don't know if I am going to be of help, but someone will chime in and help more. I used to fish (10 years ago) the ice at the springs. I know they have done some work out there since, but the fish used to hang just outside the opening to the spring as soon as the ice is safe to stand on. Most of the time we would fish about 10-20 feet from the open water. Sometimes only 5 feet. Be very careful to check the thickness! I don't want anyone getting wet on my advice. I did the best with just a 1/8th oz round lead head jig in a multitude of bright colors and tip it with a worm. I know a lot of people swear by sweedish pimples, castmasters, and sonars. I have tried them all and they have all produced white bass. If you get bored, start casting a castmaster into the open water for smaller, but plentiful whites. Like I said, not much help, but I'm sure that someoen else with more recent adventures can, and will, help out more. Good luck.
