I like most of you grew up using monofilament line and have noticed improvements over the years.

I believe they still use it for salt water for the stretch, but all I have on all my rods is fluorocarbon and braid. Once I tried Fireline years ago I never went back.

I have never used anything but mono on any of my rigs, but I do not get out fishing all the time and I only use spinning reels. I bought a baitcaster and when I took it in to Sportsman's Warehouse to fill it with line I called ahead and they told me someone would be able to help me know how to cast it, but that did not happen and the first time I tried to cast it, with the instruction I had gleaned from the internet, I got such a horrendous tangle I just took it off the rod and it sits in a box.
I am sorry this went way off topic in a hurry - just frustrated.

You may have more luck casting braid on a baitcaster than mono or f/c.

Yeah, I will give it another go before I completely give up on it...

The tough part, once the brake is set right, is:

Better reels allow for lighter lures to be cast but there are limits. 1/32 - forget it!
