It looks like Boyd Lake is froze, I stopped on Saturday and there was at least a dozen people fishing where horseshoe lake dumps into Boyd Lake.
Only one small bluegill had been caught. A few guys were by the boat docks they had a couple of crappie

Well at least you found some ice there Chuck, could you tell how thick it was? We were thinking our ice fishing season was over here, with temps in the mid to upper 40's for two weeks now but there is hope on the horizon, starting Sat, the temps are dropping back into the 30's, so maybe we will get lucky and the ice will hold out a little longer.

Boyd was definitely Boyd. Bring only your despair.

We were thinking the same thing about our ice season here. But with the cold temps came back and a pretty good snow storm and it’s staying cold. Not sure how thick the ice was for sure but it looked about 4in. or so.
I have plans to try it next week, I have visitors this week.

Hey Will, if you want to fish next week on Friday I will be out from that pump house on the south west side.

Sorry I missed your reply. Definitely could of done that. Thursday/Friday I fished the pump house area pretty early, quit around 3 or so. Noticed a group on the extreme SW side when I left and was curious about their targets/luck..
Its slowed down for me there since the first trip and the bait guy told me it slowed down before that. Landed the species I wanted 4x, 3 keepers all in all with two or three good fish unhooked at the hole, expected 10+ spit the hook out. Harder too hook than the walleye but the fights were insane.
Ice was good everywhere I was and took a lot of abuse from the weather and me , should have a good layer of frozen slush on top now. Can't check it today but it might stick around longer than it looked like a week ago. I'll send you an email address in case you ever plan the same trip. Hope you hooked into something if you went.

Hey Will, I’m actually talking about this coming Friday, if you can make it I’ll be out there. My ice house is a black pop up. I have some BFT stickers I can give you.

Yeah I should be able to get up there Friday ; a sticker would look good on my ice bucket too.

Cool I will see you out there. do you fish with live minnows for walleyes ?
I haven’t yet but I might try them this year.
[signature]
Yeah, pretty successful season in that respect. Catching them is like pulling in a log with an adrenaline rush at the end or I suspect they spit the hook 1/3 the way into the fight . Seems like the smaller ones fight better but stay on longer.
Spent less time for the walleye but its been a questionable choice.
Should actually be a great day for weather, might go early but could probably make a day of it.

Hey Will, it was good meeting you on the ice, I think I’ll try it again next week. If you can come on out again. I’ll have some minnows next time. That might be my chance for a big walleye or a small mouth bass thru the ice. That was a nice smallie you caught, did you measure it ??

So you guys finally got out there to give it a go, awesome. How thick is the ice there at Boyd?
[signature]
Good meeting you too Chuck, it was a lot of fun. Thanks for the stickers and jigs . Definitely going to try to get out again.
Measured the fish around 17 1/2, guessed about 16 1/2 but it was a lot chunkier than the couple others I got there. Best fish this year possibly. Caught another one that was a couple inches smaller with the average girth that looked about 16 1/2 to me, first one was about 16 1/2 maybe..
Ice wasn't bad, don't ever really measure or guess great but it was around 5 inches , holding up pretty good so far.

Starting to slow down with the bites lately. Had one berserk trout swallow both lines at the same time today, one fish that wasn't getting away at least.
Might of been my best trout this year but nothing worth measuring. Still cause for a feline riot in my house.
