Looking to float down the A section with my old man sometime in the next couple of months. Never done a "guided" trip, but wanting to float it instead of the typical fishing from the bank I've done in the past.
Besides being in a boat and being able to fish previously inaccessible areas, what are the benefits of going with a guide? I assume they net your fish for you and what not, but what other services are they generally expected to provide?
And lastly, anybody had any great experiences with a particular company or guide up there?

A guide will put you on the fish, give you some good information if you pick their brain a bit. I took my dad with Western Rivers a time or two just to make it easy on him. That's the only experience I have had.

Dry fly or Nymph? If you are only into dry fly there are only a few great guides that only do dry's. Ask before you book. Go to the Wasatch Expo that is coming up in a few weeks and talk to some of the companies that will be there.

I had never been on the Green with a guide until my boss gifted me with a trip. He recommended OLD MOE Guide Service (oldmoe1.com) and told me specifically to go with James Boehm as my guide.
It was a little harder to book with him because he was in demand, but it paid off huge.
We hit the river the same time in the morning as 13 other boats that were part of some big corporate group.
James held us back for them to pass then when they pulled over for lunch we passed them.
Talking to them at the end of the day they were stoked that they had all landed "a" fish "or two".
By the time I was 3/4 the way down the river I had 30+.
I fished with James for two days and both days were 30+ fish. It was incredible. he worked hard to put me right where I needed to be etc.
Had never met him before that trip, but I can promise you that if/when I go back I'll be asking for him.

Thanks for the info. I know opinions vary, but what is standard for tipping?

I'll be sure to check him out. Thanks!

Ive flooted the green a few times with guides. Some are great others are not so much. If you want a guide to show you the ropes and put you on the fish the previous advise I would take! The last few times down the green I have been I just wanted a guy to row the boat and let me fish, so did not matter who the guide was I just needed a rower. They should provide lunch. As far as tip ive always give $50-100 depending on how good they are. Have a great trip and look forward to hearing how you do. Please share pics!
p.s. id for sure go before the busy season before may
