CACHUMA: Trollers fishing at the surface to about 10 feet deep with a flasher and nightcrawler combo, Needlefish, Kastmasters, or Rapalas have had great luck on trout. Many limits of fish to 2-0 have been landed. Fishing is a little slower for bait anglers, but drifting rainbow Power Bait or inflated nightcrawlers has been catching fish. There will be a DFG trout plant this week. There is slow to fair redear bite on the drop-offs along Jackrabbit Flats. The redear are 18 to 20 feet deep and hitting pieces of nightcrawler. For fishing information call the boat dock at (805) 688-4040. The number for the main gate is (805) 688-4658.
CASITAS: The lake received two trout plants last week and anglers fishing Power Bait or inflated nightcrawlers have been taking limits of fish. Jerry Rago, Bishop, the inventor of the Generic Swimbait, tapped the lake for bass weighing 11-0, 9-8, and 8-0 on his swimbaits. February is typically a big fish month for many fishermen throwing trout-like swimbaits. For more information, contact the marina at (805) 649-2043.
CASTAIC: Largemouth bass are fair to good for anglers fishing live crawdads. For anglers fishing artificials, brown pig-n-jigs, drop-shotted or split-shotted plastics in Aaron's Magic or Oxblood and red flake have been best. Jack McMullen, Saugus, landed a double-limit of bass to 5-0 on crawdads. Don Roubidoux, West Hills, landed five bass to 4-8 on split-shotted Oxblood red flake Roboworms. Some big stripers continue to show on big trout swimbaits, and smaller stripers to 5-0 have started to hit cut anchovies from 10 to 50 feet deep. Butch Brown, Castaic, landed six stripers to 20-0 casting a trout swimbait. Paul Nelson, Van Nuys, landed an 11-0 on an A.C. Plug. Many limits of trout are showing from the west ramp since a 3,000-pound trout plant last week. The Lower Lagoon will receive a trout plant this week. For more information, contact the marina at (661) 775-6232.
PIRU: Trout fishing is good to excellent especially for trollers working by the dam in the top ten feet of the water column. Roostertails, firetiger Needlefish, and small Rapalas have been the best. Most of the trout are from 3/4-pound to 1-0. The bass bite is slow, but some fish are showing on nightcrawlers and plastics in 35 feet of water. For more information, call the marina at (805) 521-1231 or check out the new website at www.lakepiru.org.
PYRAMID: The lake has been closed for three weeks, and may be closed for up to four months as the USFS finds new concessionaires to run the boat dock and launch ramps. For information, call the USFS at (661) 296-9710.
