BISHOP AREA: Trout fishing on the Owens continues to be fair to good after recent Alper's rainbow plants and Hot Creek Hatchery brood stock plants. The Owens River is flowing at 100 cubic feet per second. Jeff White, Los Angeles, tapped the river for a 4-8 on salmon eggs. Anglers fishing baby nightcrawlers, Sierra Gold, Power Bait, crickets or mini-jigs have had the best action. In the Wild Trout stretch, fly anglers are using WD- 40's or tiger and zebra midges. There has been a sporadic baetis hatch around 1 p.m. with some surface action reported. Pleasant Valley Reservoir is fair to good by the old boat dock or the inlet. Bait anglers are using inflated nightcrawlers, Power Bait, mini-jigs, Kastmasters, or Sierra Gold to take limits of trout to 5-0. Ross Beckwith, El Mirage, landed a 4-0 rainbow on an inflated nightcrawler. For more information, contact Culver's at (760) 872-8361, Brock's at (760) 872-3581, or Sierra Drifters Guide Service at (760) 935-4250 or contact Creekside R.V. Park at (760) 873-4483.
LONE PINE AREA: Slow to fair trout fishing on worms, crickets, Crave Nitro Dough, and flies in the Owens. The Lone Early Opener Trout derby will be held 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., March 6 at Diaz Lake. For more information, contact the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce at (760) 876-4444.
