My dad and I fished a club tourney Thursday out of Chester Frost and it was a strange day for us. We fished second, had 15 lbs or so, 18 pounds won but the team that won had a 10.62 big fish.
We put in at Chester Frost and fished around that area all day as the wind really started howling later in the day and we had to kinda find a place to hide to keep fishing.
Water temps were 59 at launch and 62 to 63 at 3 pm.
Caught first fish on my first cast of the day (Always bad luck) on a chatterbait in about 3 feet of water. Next fish came same bait, same depth about 15 minutes later both keeper fish, nothing special. After that all I did was net fish for my dad as I only know I had two bites the rest of the day. We fished shallow flats as the sun came up and nothing. Fished shallow docks and deep docks and nothing. My dad caught three more keepers, all on a shakeyhead and he caught two more non-keepers and I think that was all for the day. All those fish came between 3 and 8 feet of water and some were on a piece of cover and some where just roaming around.
I fished chatterbaits, cranks, spinnerbait, lizards, worms and jigs and nothing for me after good daylight. The fish were not where they normally are this time of the year for us, but the lower water made some places we have caught them before only a few inches deep.
Can't be unhappy with the results, but was a tough day I think 14 was third place and after that really tailed off.
What surprised me was normally this time of year with that water temp you can just go down a bank and catch those little males but there was none of that today. Was just one fish here and there for us.
