The secret to catching Kokes at Starvation State park is to drive the 38 miles to Soldier Creek at Strawberry and troll at 1.7 mph, 23 feet deep with the usual pink squid and Gulp maggots. I got 4 nice Kokes in a little over 2 hours trolling the main bay between the two Soldier Creek marinas. Of course the one Pig I hooked got off while I was trying to net it. It was probably around 20 inches and it's still there for the next guy.

I got no joy fishing Tuesday at Starvy in my boat. One 18 inch SMB to show for 5 hours of throwing jigs tipped with a crawler. I saw some nice Walleye caught, but the fisherman was not in my boat. I even say some fishermen fishing after dark on Wednesday right off the beach below my campsite and they caught a few 'Eyes including one real nice 22 plus incher.

I did get to meet and talk with Pacfan several times. A fine Vietnam Vet and Hill worker for years. When I grow up, I want to be just like him. But alas, I have to work for another year or so to pay for the toys. Pacfan was a few campsites from me and we talked several times. He was willing to share some intel on how he got some Kokes at Starvy a while ago. I tried today for about three hours and caught one 16" RBT that stills swims in the pond. Eventually that lake will turn on and I'll come back.

PM me if want any other details.

It was nice visiting with you Mike and putting a face to a BFT name. Looks like we have travelled some of the same trails and know a lot of the same people. I didn't catch many kokes this trip but they all seem to run around 18 inches and nice heavy fish. We came home today to let the holiday party goers have the lake. I will be headed back down the 4th for a few more days, did I ever mention to you how much I like the retired life? [cool][cool][fishon]

It was a pleasure to meet you and chat about the mutual friends and experiences. I'm sure our paths will cross again fairly soon. Good luck when you go back to Starvation. June 4 I will be headed to where I'll be fishing for 30 pound plus fish and some big bucks ($).

Take care and enjoy every minute of your retirement. A very busy weekend awaits me in the "Lost Canyon".
