Put the boat in the water at the Aspen Grove ramp around 6:30 this morning. We had a double kokanee hookup before we even got out into the main channel... but only got one into the boat. Then everything went quiet for us.

Fish finder was seeing quite a few fish in the zone -- 35-40 feet -- but we couldn't seem to find a consistent combination. We tried a variety of colors and lures, and every once in a while we'd hook a kokanee, but nothing consistent. Sometimes pink, sometimes green. A couple combinations really seemed to resonate with the smallish cutts, and we relocated several of them throughout the day.

As a side note, be aware that Aspen Grove campground and marina is still without potable water. There's a couple gross portables there, but the restrooms are locked and the fish cleaning station is locked with a sign about how it's closed due to freezing temperatures. I chatted with the guy at the marina store and he says there's a problem with their well--and between AL&L, the Forest Service, and the contractor, somehow they'll work it out. The entire campground is without running water and is using nasty portables. It seems they ought to waive or drastically reduce the use fees if they aren't able to provide services.

My friend Dane says that this is the one rule about life that applies to everything: "They will take your money." Try it on any scenario and see. You forgot to pay your taxes? They will take your money. Want a new boat? They will take your money. Want what should be gratis from the government? They will take your money. Works every time.
