Well I was supposed to fish Strawberry today but when I pulled in at 4am sharp to pick up my father in law twas no answer at the door. Apparently he didnt set an alarm and didnt wake up.
Decided to head home & grab an hour or two of sleep before calling to invite my nephew for a Willard excursion. I'd heard from my sister that he's really been wanting to go fishing and his Mom and Dad just dont fish. So Uncle D to the rescue... He's never fished Willard before but he had a great day. He landed 3 nice Wiper, a Walleye and a big old carp that was foul hooked through the Dorsal fin. That thing took nearly 40 minutes to bring in and felt like a snag at times. He did great though and eventually landed it. All in all we ended up landing 4 wiper, 3 Walleye, 1 Catfish and a carp. We caught all our fish trolling at about 2.6-2.8 mph. We used several different #4 glass rap patterns and a crawdad lucky craft. All lures caught fish. Several off the down riggers 12-15' down and several off the planer boards.

That's a great catch. They are a great fight and fun to watch the kids battle those wipers. I to have used the clear raps and caught both kinds of fish. Walleyes behind a planner board don't fight much, but a great eating fish.
I guess you had light winds, that's good for fishing, no bugs and good boat control.
That cleaning station get the electricity back yet?

How far behind your downriggers did you run your lines?

There was actually a bit more wind yesterday than I was. Comfortable with in our little boat, 5-15mph throughout the day. Yes the electricity was working. I was able to use my electric filler knife at the S. Marina.

50-60ft

So you were 5-7 feet down with your lure then 12-15 feet down with the downrigger. Pretty much dragging bottom at Willard?

Mostly walleyes off the downriggers or a combination of walleye/wipers?[fishon]

Give or take pretty close to the bottom off the one down rigger with a reliable counter. The other rigger is a mini little John with a 1lb weight and allot of blowback. I'd guess that one was running 8-10' down but really cant say for sure.
