My son and I went to Strawberry Saturday. We went with the desire to bring home dinner and we were not disappointed. We drove over to Soldier Creek to fish . The main area is still open water, but we found 5+ inches of ice over by the Out House. Temp was -10 when we arrived and with a slight breeze, the temp was - freezing. We caught and brought home 6 rainbow, all about 13 to 14 inches. No cutts were caught. I dropped my Vexilar Fish Phone down the hole to a depth of 15 feet to capture the video. This was the first time using the setup... a Christmas present from me to me. I am disappointed with the sharpness of the picture but all in all, it still is interesting to watch. Hoping there is a way to focus better.

Hey did you check for a film cover over the lens? Mine had a thin almost see through plastic coating to protect the lens. Peel it off and it will clear things up I think. Good luck. J

Am wondering why the weight above the jig?
I have used a flasher before but perhaps I am missing something.

It gets me up and down the water column faster so I can chase after fish at any depth quickly. I generally like to stay deep and rise up the column to the depth of the fish when they enter. Many times I am chasing a fish when it leaves the column and another enters at a deeper depth. They don't generally stay around long enough for me to "float" down before they leave. Now that I can see what the jig is doing, I will test my theory, but I tend to think I get better action with weight above the jig. May have to try it with the weight below and see what the results are and then another time without any weight. This will be a good education tool.
So what did you think of the video's clarity? Up close it is good, but who wants to have their camera a foot away from the jig. I was about 3 feet apart in this video.

I am no expert in this field but judging from some of the underwater cameras I have seen video of, this seems pretty comparable. I think the biggest problem is the water clarity.

Hey that looks pretty good. It’s just a water clarity issue you never can see too far under water. Some places are better than others but I find most places have a bit of an issue seeing very far. I think that video turned out pretty good so from what I’ve seen don’t expect it to do a ton better than that. Thanks J

Your video looks good to me. The picture quality is similar to what I get on mine in color mode. Does it have a black and white setting? I get a better picture out of mine on black and white then I do with color.
It is supposed to switch automatically from Black and White to Color depending on the available light.

Not a pro at underwater cameras but it is better than the couple I have been around.
That might be due to the water clarity. The others I have seen at 3' you could hardly see the jig at all.
I would bet somewhere like fish lake you could see a lot further due to clarity. I have always been able to see white jigs at 24' to 25' at fish lake but not even close to that far at the berry.
I chase in the water column deep to shallow also, but I want my jigs to sink real real real slow. I pick up pretty much half of my fish on the drop. That is while jigging or while going deeper.

Using my Vex... I chase them up and down the column. Generally I will sit at a depth they are coming thru at. If they are cruising thru at a 10 ft level, they are on the prowl and almost always hit the lure. If they are deep, like right on the bottom, they are generally a little bigger fish and mostly hit the lure. I am talking trout, not to keen on pan fish... yet.
I have been reading up on how to read bottom hardness using a flasher. I am curious to verify what has been written using the camera. The article I have been reading talks about what species of fish like what type of terrain. I hope to be much more savvy by the end of this ice season.

fish roof... I am not understanding your question. How far to the side?? If I am understanding correctly, it would depend on how far away you are from the focal point. I was about 3 feet from my lure on this one, I would guess the side view was about the same distance at the focal point.
