This year I'm trying to catch every kind of trout I can through the ice. Golden and brook seem beyond my reach without a snowmobile, but I'd really like to ice some browns. I've caught all the others already. Can anyone tell where I would have a really good shot at the browns? I would appreciate any help you can give.

If you’re willing to drive about 2 hours and 45 minutes go try Fontinelle in Wyoming. Otherwise Rockport and Echo are probably your best shot.

Thank you. Gotta keep it in state. I've iced a fair number of trout in both Rockport and Echo but have never caught a brown. Is there a particular place or technique that would help target browns?

Never targeted just Browns through the ice. But I have caught a few at Deer Creek, Jordanelle, Echo, Fish Lake and Causey. Seems more like just random luck then any technique. Wish I could help you more.

The picture is Grantsville Reservoir. I caught a 20 inch brown trout near the surface at night in (wet) water with swim bait cast far into the reflection of a large full moon, but your technique might have be modified for ice fishing

I’ve caught a lot of brown trout thru the ice at deer creek out from the island. If you can find that dirt road out there the perch are usually around it and the brown are higher up in the water column. The depth out there should be around 40 to 50 fow and the browns cruise around in 20 to 30 fow. I use a gold kastmaster and jig it at that depth. good luck to you.

Echo i caught 5 in one day perch fishing last week about 18 -20 inches.

Like fish roof said -- go perch fishing! Locally, Echo may be your best bet; we usually catch 2 or 3 thru the ice each season while trying for perch...IMO that's the key: fishing on the bottom, as they are cruising low eating small perch...2 Saturday's ago I caught a chubby 21" Brown off the bottom, with ice jig, and he had a 4" half-devoured perch hanging out of his mouth...this was at Rockport...Guluk...

Try Deer Creek. Put a couple holes near the no wake bouy line by the island. Not sure why but brown trout seem to like to hang out by those anchor chains on the bouys. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. That's not too far away and sounds like a good spot. So many lakes, so little time.[

Sounds better than my advice.
Hope it works for ya.

I’m surprised nobody has suggested Jordanelle. That’s all I target there. Fish something where perch hang and make it look like a meal. I’ve found they like to chase movement.

Rockport last trip we landed 2 browns 16-18” came rocketing up off bottom hitting tingler 1/8oz spoons tipped with spikes and perch eye. Those 2 are still swimming
