Well it was two strikes and a hit this week bass fishing from my tube. Thursday I went to Deer Creek and the water temp was 46-49 depending on where you were. Saw a largemouth roll near the west bank and had one definitive bite but missed the hook set. Fished gitzits, curly tail grubs, drop shot, jerkbait, and even tried powerbait for trout but not even a loner rainbow would bite...when you can’t get a single trout to bite powerbait at deer creek, the bite is simply off
Today I headed to Willard on account of the supposed smallmouth bite picking up and I fished the southwest corner pretty hard. Lots of mosquitos and other fisherman but no takers. I didnt get on the water till 8:30 but the guy leaving had caught one wiper and he heard of a couple smallmouth being caught so maybe it was an early bite. Water temp about 51-52 when I was there. Not two be skunked again, I decided to pack up the tube and head to Mantua where the bluegill bite has been hot this past week. I’ve never fished Willard or Mantua but decided to head for the trees and brush cover upon arrival. First bite came on a weightless robo worm and then finally landed a 12 inch bass on a bobber/plastic minnow combo meant for bluegill. Finished the afternoon on a good note by catching 13 small bass in a school off the same minnow nose hooked weightless. Lots of people on the water but not many catching any. I think I caught a lucky break by finding the hungriest pocket of fish on the lake []It was a nice ending to the week and I’m happy to have moved out of skunkville
