I was thinking about trying willard this weekend for wipers, how is the fishing up their. Is it better in the morning or afternoon? I have fishied freewaybay and the south marina, but have little experience up their. thanks

I think they must be catching fish because everyone is quiet... Been hearing some rumors of folks limiting out on wiper, but I can't verify them because they were second or third hand stories... Rumors are slow trolling about 1-1.5 mph and they wouldn't let out lure types... (This is a little atypical, usually tolling fast 3-3.5 mph and shad raps in fire tiger are the ticket this time of year.) Typically the wiper turn on as the heat of the day builds and towards the fading hours of the day, but that's from years past and not fresh info... I would think this weekend should be as good as it's been so far this year with the break in the weather and a warming trend... Good luck and please report back on what you find... Later J

PS... The go-to soaking bait is mussels this time of year if you can find where the wiper are at... Pick up the mussels in the Walmart freezer section. Fish them on the bottom Carolina rig and hang on to your pole...

Better yet, TETHER any unattended rod - or hear the splash.

In theory, this is the lean time of year for wipers to find food. So they should be aggressively hitting anything that swims past, and that will increase as the water warms.

people are limiting out on wipers from shore using mussels with egg sinkers fishing right off the bottom. One day you will limit out and the next day nothing so pretty much have to go each day. The wipers are the biggest I've ever seen them in the past 3 years. I heard both southwest corner and North marina are hitting.
