It seems that my fishing needs are changing. We just moved my Mom and Dad up here to the Logan area with us. Both have to use walkers. We are taking them fishing (yes, they are the cause of my addiction) and are considering Utah Lake (Lincoln Beach marina or mulberry beach) or Willard Bay at the ADA fishing docks. My Dad grew up on white bass, catfish, and bass in Kansas. No boat, so fishing from shore is the only option.

The weather could be sketchy.

Suggestions welcome since my dad is crawling out of his skin to go, okay so am I.

I was at Willard yesterday and seen a couple people catch wipers with muscles for bait from shore. Maybe a ok option did seem pretty slow fishing though.

Welcome to BFT and good luck next weekend, I have a Father in Law that is in about the same shape and it's hard to find good access without the boat, but I'm sure someone will come up with some good tips for you... I was at Lincoln last weekend and I'm not sure I seen a good area there, but it was my first time there and we were in a boat, so I wasn't really looking... I know it's more of a trout lake, but you might check out the fishing dock at Hyrum swim beach. Probably a lot of perch close to it with occasional LMB and trout... Cutler at Benson, there could be shore fishing area there at the boat ramp, I know they catch pretty good channels there at times, but I'd take a ride out ahead of time and make sure the area will work for him... Good luck and hope you have a great trip... It will be work for you, but I think you'll have a great trip anyway... Later Jeff

I'll bump you back to the top to see if you can get more responses.

They have a nice fishing pier for handicapped anglers on the north dike in the Utah State Park in Provo. You might need to ask some able bodied anglers to move so you can use the pier as it was intended.

There is a really nice pier in the north marina on Willard Bay. It is the last pier on the west end of the south dike. I walked out on it yesterday.

Well, weather is lousy for us. Maybe I will try to get him out on the Hyrum fishing dock or the various Cutler accesses this weekend. Would someone turn off the rain? Next weekend isn’t looking much better. I really want to get him into white bass. Patience isn’t my strong point.

Last years trip “educating” a son in law. He learned to fillet them all[fishon]

Catfish is the perfect target for less mobile shore fishers.
This guy here is the cause of my own addiction,, just about a month ago at 90 years young. Don’t pass up a chance to get out with them where ever it is.

Hey at Cutler, in the Benson marina parking lot, I think you can drive right up next to the boat ramp with your vehicle and cast in there and stay out of the weather in your vehicle and watch your poles from inside. HOWEVER, make sure the poles are secured tight these cats are pulling like crazy lately and I'd hate to see you lose your poles to the fish.
I don't know how much catfishing you do, so ignore this if you already know, but the cats are liking cut bait, (carp chunks) lately and I'm fishing them on big hooks like 5 aughts or bigger (00000). If you put a chunk the size of half a fist the big boys will take it, with a few less mud cats... Action will not be fast, but fun when you get it... If you don't have carp, use a night crawler ball of several crawlers on one hook, this will work for the cats and also carp in the area, so it will do double duty, bait and cat action... Less worms will work better for carp, but also mudcats will drive you nuts too. I'm not sure what my weekend plans will be, but I'm only a couple miles from there, if you need something let me know and maybe I can help... Good luck... Jeff
PS... I'll PM you my number so you can contact if needed... J

Okay, we are starting at Cutler and Benson Marina. We can always go up to Valley View or Cache Junction if needed. Well see how it goes. Carp os thawing with a friendly sucker slab on the side. Here kitty, kitty, kitty.

We ended up at Cutler between clouds and wind. Dad caught one yellow bullhead on worms. Numerous players on carp and sucker, probably bullheads since no one wanted to play. I did cut a small piece of sucker and had one good hit, for a bullhead. But as it is, my Dad had me laughing all day. Great fathers and son activity.

Glad you got to have a great day with your Dad... Sorry the fish didn't want to cooperate like they should have... Seems like a little weather can sure slow the bite... At least the weather wasn't a total down pour... Hope you two can get out again soon and good luck with the sore belly... I hear a good belly laugh is good for the sole though... Later J
