We did so well fishing for Kokanee over Memorial Day weekend at FG that my brother talked me into taking him up this past weekend. We also brought my dad, who hasn’t been able to fish with us for quite a while, a good friend and my 11 yo son. We started fishing near the cliffs by Swim Beach in the same area that we fished last weekend. Fishing was considerably slower to start so we moved out into deeper water by the state line buoys. Water temp was about 52°. We were able to get all five limits but it took a lot more work this trip. We were only getting hits when we were either turning the boat or moving the downriggers up and down. The fish were caught between 25 and 75 feet. We did not mark many fish and no schools still. A green squid with a Dakota spinner from Lakeshore tackle and a moon jelly dodger was the best setup but we caught fish on pink, orange and even white. Scent was also important this trip. Last time scent didn’t seam to matter as much. We used one kernel of green garlic tuna corn and one kernel of Kokanee krill pink dyed corn on the squid/spinner and put either Sockeye slayer gel or Herring gel on the dodger.
Overall it was a very fun trip and was great spending time on the water with my dad and family and friends. We grilled up a few of the fillets yesterday on some cedar planks. This is my favorite way to cook Kokanee!
