Had another great day at Lincoln today. I made a quick dash out to BI to start and picked up four nice cats. As dark clouds and lightning started to develop in the northwest I gather up and headed back closer to a quick exit. I fished near the reeds again and caught some really nice cats... heavy, dark males with very bad attitudes. It tests your equipment and skill to head one of those big boys off when they charge for the reeds. I caught several that were right around 28 inches long... always expecting the next cat to be the Big One.
The clouds and lightning continued to build so I decided it was time to get off of the water. I had one big tom cat that looked like he might give me a contest score bump so kept him in my live well until I could get a photo. Good fish but same old shrinkage problem -- just over 28 inches. Weighed 11 pounds and 11 oz. I put him back to grow a couple more inches.
When I left another boat came in, looked like a father son duo. They were trying to beat the storm too. One die-hard catter remained on the water... some guy with a southern accent and from down in Sanpete County... Yup, none other than Ice-Sled. If the lightning didn't get him I'm sure the rain did. Hope he got in okay.
Anyhow, good fishing, but bad weather. The spawn has a good start and should continue to get better. Lots of cats to be caught.
