got to the berry and was fishin by 8:30. went with two of my buds. the one is bigcat. bigcat caught two right of the bat before i even got in the hole. i was messsing around with a new technique. and had to give him a little head start. he was using an ice fly and a meally. i got in the hole and quickly caught back up. the bite was not as lite today. i was surpirsed. hooked almost every fish that hit. i caught a couple more here and there and so did bigcat and my other bud. bigcat had to leave at 11:30 and right before the sorry punk left he snaged himself another nasty cutt. off course he snagged it in the mouth though. the way he sets the hook you would think he is snaggin em. man talk about rippen them lips. any way his last cutt put him one ahead at 7 for him and 6 for me. i stayed with my other bud until 3 i caught 3 more, had one get off at the hole, and had 3 other good hits. i caught 9 in total. my other bud caught 6 on the day and had a couple other good hits. we fished the marina for convenience. fished in and around 20 foot of water. bigcat is a good man and a good fisherman, but just remember we were fishin on his home court. next time we will be going to my spot on the berry and he wont be lucky enough to win.

[cool]jr8fish, sounds like a great time. How thick is the ice now? Last time I was there about 2 wks ago it was close to 2ft. And was there any slush on the ice with these warm temps and all?

I was at the Berry Saturday, the ice was about 18" with no slush. I caught 9 and my friend caught 21. One wax worm on a small pink fink.

I'll be heading up to Strawberry (Finally!) with my scouts this Saturday. Hopefully we can get a bunch of them to catch some nice trout. I've already educated them on the slot limit and given each of them one of those brochures that they have at Sportsmans that tells all the regulations at Strawberry and has pictures for species identification.
It's important to teach responsible angler ethics while they're still young! [

I enjoyed fishing yesterday with Jr8fish and his hungry friend Eric. It was not our best morning of the year but the weather was warm, the fish were biting, and the company was good. After reading all of JR's posts this year about his success at the Berry it was good to fish with him and see that he is a legitimate fisherman and a great guy. We had a friendly competetion since he likes to do a little smack talking. We were tied at 6 each and I needed to leave so I started packing up. The fishing pole is always the last thing packed. This time it paid off. Everything was packed up and big number 7 was landed and Bigcat goes home CHAMPION! Granted we were at my home turf (my fishin hole) because his hole was pretty inaccessable because of the deep snow. JR and Eric could walk along the crusty snow like deer while my fat you know what sank into mid thigh with each step. We'll bring snow shoes next time and fish his home turf so I can school him in his own hole.
The ice is about 24 inches thick and a good workout with a hand auger. No slush but about 10-12 inches of crusty powder on top of the ice so not very good for wheelers. It pretty much snowed on us the whole time yesterday but too warm to stick to the roads.
When you set the hook, rip their lips off!!!
