I need to invest in a couple pole holders for my kayak. Do you guys any suggestions on what brands that might work for me.

[cool][#0000ff]I can offer some designs and ideas for making your own, from PVC. Otherwise, go to the marine catalog for Bass Pro, or the same for Cabelas. They have several models from single rod to five and six rod holders. [/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Try to find something that doesn't require serious drilling and modification of the craft. Some of them can be eficiently and safely screwed down to the top surface, without messing uo the appearance or the integrity of the shell.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Suggest you go to a couple of the "yak fishing" websites and look at a few of the rigs you will find pictured. As SPECIAL K (Kayote) will attest, yakking is a growing type of fishing and there is more and more equipment and addons being made especially for fishing from these fun craft.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Are you going to wait for iceout, or have you been sledding on the ice with your new toy?[/#0000ff]

I MADE A KYAK OUT OF WOOD AND CANVAS A FEW YEARS AGO. I TOO WANTED TO GET A POLE HOLDER FOR IT, THE BEST DESIGN I FOUND WAS AT ANGLERS INN, GONE NOW, BUT IT MAYBE AVAILABLE AT SPORTSMANS OR SOMETHING, IT WAS A CLAMP ON STYLE MADE FOR ALUMINUM BOATS I GUESS IT MOUNTED ON THE GUNWALE SIMILAR TO HOW A LECTRIC MOTOR MOUNTS UP MINUS THE WIRING OF COURSE. ALTHOUGH I DID HAVE MY MINKOTA ON ONE SIDE AND MY ROD HOLDER ON THE OTHER A FEW TIMES BEFORE I GOT A TEAR IN MY CANVAS. IT HAD 2 SCREWS SIMILAR TO A C-CLAMP AND IT JUST MOUNTED MINE HAD A REMOVEABLE HOLDER THAT DROPPED INTO THE MOUNT SO IT COULD BE STOWED. I HAVE SINCE BUSTED IT AND TOSSED IT IN THE TRASH. BUT THAT IS THE DESIGN I FOUND, THEN I GOT A FLOAT TUBE AND I QUIT USING MY KYAK FOR THAT. HOPE I HELPED, I WOULD TRY CABELAS THEY HAVE A PRETTY GOOD SELECTION OF THOSE THINGS AND I THINK THEY HAVE SIMILAR ONES THAT MOUNT ON PONTOONS NOW. PROBALY CHEAPER THAN WHEN I GOT MINE TOO.

Thanks for the replies Badfish and Tubedude.
Hey Tube, I can't wait for open water. I did push my son around the yard in my Kayak in the snow. He liked daddy power.

The Malibu website has flush mount holders that are sweet behind the seat. You will probably want to mount a Scotty up front. You should use stainless bolts and Marine or Plumbers goop to seal it (available at Walmart). You will want to mount the Scotty with backing. I have some extra yak plastic from my hatch cut out you can have for backing. Just let me know when you're out. Also try San Diego sailing Center website for Cobra accessories.
