With personal issues going on we had not been on the water since CFF #9. Headed to some lighted docks we have visited frequently this summer. Right after dark, I hook our fist big fish, but broke him off under the dock. Shortly after that, I skipped under the dock again, and after a long struggle, put our first fish, around 4.5 pounds in the boat. Fish was extremely long with a huge mouth, but unfortunately, a small belly. After that, our dock bite died.
Around midnight, we moved to a second lighted dock in another slough. Dusty hooked, then lost a keeper as it jumped in the air and through the hook. Not to be outdone, I did the same exact thing shortly after that. We continued to fish the dock, as I think we both caught a short. I then kept noticing some movement around the front of the dock, which led to our second keeper in 12 FOW on a texas rigged Lake Fork Fry. FInally headed to our last spot, where we may have gotten a single bite until right at 1:40. We moved to some isolated grass and Dusty and I got bit at almost the same time. I casted back and as I was about 6 feet from the boat something hammered it. Tried to get a solid hookset but the fish came unbuttoned. We spend our last seconds trying to get that needed bite. Then we had to hump it back to the ramp and made it with seven seconds to spare.
Brutal night for us. Congrats to those who weighed fish. I thought that 4.5 was a decent fish until I had to weigh in after Jerry and Todd with their 8+ pounders.
