I don't know about Magna but from the corner of 7000 South and Redwood here in West Jordan it is exactly 50.2 miles and about an hours drive. Probably close to the same or a little longer from Magna. Yes, Echo has been very good for Perch. The ice should still be good then as long as the edges aren't too bad. If so I'll probably be there that Saturday.

No, it won't melt away before Saturday. The question you might want to ask is: Do I have 4x4. This rain today is supposed to turn to snow tonight, and is expected to dump between 2-3 feet of snow in our mountains between today and SATURDAY. I'd check the road reports before heading up this weekend if you don't have 4x4. Good luck up there!

I fished Echo for the first time last weekend. I had never even been to the lake before that day. We drove towards the dam and got off at the exit at that end of the lake and headed back towards Coalville. We went about 1 mile past Echo Resort (just a collection of campers)found a place to park and hit the hard water. We drilled a few holes close to shore in about 15 feet of water and caught a couple perch but moved out a little further. Since we didn't know the lake we picked places where we could tell a lot of holes had been drilled and it worked like magic. The two of limited out in 3-4 hours caught about 100 fish for the day. The limit is 20 perch. We kept nothing smaller than 8-10" all the little ones we threw back. Bait used? We started with waxworm on an ice fly but after the first perch we used perch eyes I even had caught a trout poped the eyes out put them on the icefly and they caught bigger perch.

Go out and have fun Ceasar! The day was a hoot!

Just so you know in case a ranger comes by while you're fishing, it's unlawful to use gamefish parts for bail (except for the eggs of any species can be used). The exceptions are yellow perch in many lakes, and white bass in Utah lake.

Hi there ocean well you got a got of good info about how to get to echo res. and what is there. I was there yesterday (2-25) and had a real good day there. I got there about 820am and there was only two other group of two or there each there. I went to usual spot about 150 yards west of the boat ramp drilled my hole and began to have fun. In about three and a half hrs. I was limited on my perch unfortunately I had 16 inch trout get in may way of my perch fishing, I hate when that happens and it usually does. The ice was over 12 inch thick and when I went out the edgs was hard, and when I left it was some what soft on the edges for about a foot. The perch bite on anything green with waxies. Well have fun if the weather will let you.

I re-read the proclamation on bait.

Section 7 Bait:

line 3) Game fish or their parts amy not be used, except for the following

line b) Dead yellow perch may be used @ .....Echo......

...and in 7 (e):

"The eggs of any species of fish, except prohibited fish, may be used as bait. However, eggs may not be taken or used from fish that are being released."
