I tried my luck at echo Sunday morning after being motivated by T.Ds report. I've accidently caught small perch in the past, but have never targeted their bigger brothers directly. Silly me thinking it would be as simple as tossing out a worm on a small hook. The perch put me in my place, and reminded me I have a lot to learn!

I pushed the kayak in at 605 am. Fishing was very consistent for decent sized smallmouth. Fan casting a Texas rigged bitsy craw from around 7 fo.w was non-stop action. I was using a "predator" gel scent. I had the lake most to myself for a few hours, but was then joined by a few groups that had camped on the shore.

They were soon followed by the power squadron. I've never seen the lake so criwded. There were vehicles lining the shore and boats parked at the beach blasting their stereos by noon. One boat blew right past the no wake bouys at speed, sending me for an unexpected swim. Luckily I was in the shallows and my carp bow was the only thing to go overboard with me.

I was hoping to catch perch, but despite my various offerings I only got the middle fin. I did get one eight incher on a worm harness I was dragging behind me on my way back in!

It might have been coincidence, but I felt like the average fish I caught seemed considerably larger than just a couple weeks ago. Wonder if the storm caused it?

Not a bad day out!

(Basically all the same photo, but I'm pretty sure they're all different fish Wink

It looks like a fun day! Thanks for the report! Hopefully the weather cools down along with the boater traffic. As it does, I presume the fishing will get better as well.
