Saturday was one of the most interesting fishing adventures that I have ever had. When I pulled up to the dam I almost turned around because the parking area was plowed in, and there is only a crawl hole through the gate. I used the front of my truck to plow a parking place for myself, and when I was satisfied that I was far enough off the road and yet could get myself out I surveyed the situation. The walk to the gate was the most difficult part. I had to cut a trail in snow that went up to my arm pits. For those of you who are planning on going there should be a decent trail now. The walk across the dam is not too bad. There are a few drifts that go over the knees. The walk down the far side of the dam is ok as long as you cut a path towards the far bank. If you stray too far towards the dam you will sink up to your arm pits. I strayed off the trail 3 or 4 times on the way down. When you get to the lake I would suggest waders or hip boots. The slush and snow are really deep. I cleared an area to fish in drilled my holes and found myself in an icy pond within minutes. The water level is raising so when you drill the hole, water comes out immediately. I ended up sitting indian style on my chair so that my feet were not in the water.

I fished for an hour in 18 ft I caught 15 cutts from the bottom to the top. Many of the fish were caught taking the ice fly or paddle bug on the drop. After about an hour the fishing seemed to slow down so I moved in a few feet. I was now fishing in 10ft of water. I was only 15-20 ft from the dam. The fishing was hot once again. I picked up another 14 cutts and one rainbow in 1 1/2 hours. The fish were between 13 and 18 inches. To those of you who are stout hearted and seeking an adventure I would recommend E-Lake. Just plan on slush and snow at least knee high.

You are a brave die hard, it s a good thing that the fishing was good after all of the work that it took you to get to the ice. i would have been a little weery of stress cracks in the ice with the rising water levels though.

way to go dude !! but all the slush and snow is why i'm not putting E-lake at the top of my list at this time.. E-lake is not a good lake to take the little fuzz'es.. so if i get a chance to get up there before i have to go out of town again i will give it a try... you have to love the fishing there though!!!

Thanks for giving me the heads up on this lake last year. It is worth the price of admission.[Wink]

That sounds like a killer trip to me, I would have gone there with you in a heart beat. Sometimes the mean conditions and hard work make the trip even more memorable and the fish that much more valuable. Cool report.
