The scene as I kicked away from shore yesterday... just me, the Grebes (w/ babies on board), and a setting FULL MOON (OK, almost 2 hrs from setting):
So question on lake fishing for trout around a full moon... what is everyone's experience with this? The pros, like Denny Rickards, and guides (like those at Pyramid Lake) try never to fish in that window from day before to 2 days after a full moon.
My personal experience is that the bite is usually quite intense starting at first light, and very good overall throughout the morning. The noticeable difference is the size of the fish. For me (full moon, lakes, trout) are always good "numbers" days, but the average size of the fish is smaller than normal, or prime (new moon) days. These others mentioned above are trophy trout specialists, and also have the luxury of not fishing around a full moon.
Curious what others have noticed (if anything).
