Good morning my fellow BFTers.
I had a comment this morning, that I thought I would address to the whole group.
We are getting between 3-8 spammers each morning. The spam is usually related to " keto gummies" but sometimes have differnt titles.
Please do not open these and if you do - Never- click any of the hot links in the post. If you do A plague of biblical proportion will descent on your computer. Ok that was melodramatic. But you could at worst get a virus and at best be on the new call list for everything spammy.
I was asked why we don't purge them.
I do.
Every morning I am up at 4. I usually catch them and purge and delete them before you ever see them. But sometimes I miss them or they spam at differnt times and I don't catch them right away. Our Admin, also watches for them and purges many of the attempts.
They use a computer algorithm "bot" to generate a new account with a differnt IP address each time, so simply purging them will not make them go away.
Admin is aware but stopping a computer generate bot is a real challenge. I hope IT can solve it, but until then we will keep at the purge button in the morning so your feed is mostly clear of them when you want to do some fishy chat.
Cheers
CBP
Thanks for your continued surveillance. I'm up at 5 and see them almost every morning but you folks have them gone soon after.
Big job for you to keep up with bots... Thanks for your efforts... Jeff
Just so you guys can see what we deal with on any given day, here is a link to just todays new spammers and you can go back page by page and see what we deal with. As bad as it is now, it was worse when the new site kicked off over two years ago, we were getting 10 or more per hour and that went on for over two weeks before the IT guys got it figured out, unfortunately they don't seem to be able to stop it without severely limiting leget new members from signing up and it's one of the reason, you will lose access to your password if you don't regularly get on and at least view the site. We do what we can do and it does help when member who see this stuff hit the report post button, thanks.

Thanks, you guys for the effort to keep we users safe.
It's too bad these guys can't get a real job.
I had noticed an increase of these type posts in the past couple weeks. I always report them, even when it says they have already been reported.
I think the admin folks and mods have done and are doing a great job at keeping these type of post eliminated.
My thanks to all the mod's. You guys do a fantastic job. I know from experience of what you have to go through. I was a mod for over 10 years at the 'Utah Flyway Forum' Refuge Forum. I think some of you know what forum this is, Dubob for sure.

Y E S I D O!
I wish you’d leave the posts, I’ve been in the market for some keto gummies and just don’t know where to get them!
Seriously, thanks for the work in moderating the spam. Have you considered using a CAPTCHA as part of the user registration? I know we all hate declaring that “I am not a robot” but they work in deterring spammers. Another option, if the board supports it, is to configure new accounts so that they cannot post for the first 72 hours after creation, or until the account is approved by a moderator. I’m sure your IT folks are all over it but I’m happy to help or provide suggestions, I’ve got experience dealing with these things as part of my day job.

Great idea, about the 72 hour wait time before posting, I'll bring it up with the owners and see what they think, might send you a PM about this.
Many forums don't allow new members to make their first post (or sometimes more than one post) until the post is approved by a moderator.
I've even gotten porn crap in my PM box.

How long ago was this? I haven't seen anything like that in months but I know earlier this year there was an issue with that.
