In areas like mine it might help you to adopt a six season year being: DJ FM AM JJ AS ON.
It may help smooth the year and your flexibility to transition into new seasons. We already think in terms of late-fall or early-spring and so on.
But instead of thinking its somewhere in late fall you can know its ON. Also you can think of the first two seasons as Ice seasons so it feels like you get more.
To complicate things you can remember the seasons as "ON AM/FM as D.J. JJ"
